Through these sculptures, I sought to explore the versatility of the medium and produce concrete sculptures that were both interesting and thought-provoking. Through these works, I aimed to convey my own thoughts and processes, as well as to spark important conversations about the issues surrounding the materials used in their creation. As I worked on the pieces, I also considered their longevity, which led me to research the durability of various materials. Ultimately, I determined that cement was the best choice for the intended purpose, as it is both durable and able to maintain its form after setting. However, I also recognise that the production of cement generates a significant amount of carbon dioxide each year, approximately 2.5 billion tonnes. The juxtaposition between sustainable art practice and cement as an medium is deliberate and drives dialogue with viewers.
