This sculpture was inspired by the words "trapped", "environment" and "reuse". This piece is made from twisted and woven tentacles that wrap around pieces of recycled plastic forming a cocoon like structure that demonstrates the close-minded society we live in that either choses to ignore the environmental issues we have or refuses to believe we even have them.
The form of the sculpture was designed to catch the viewers eyes and draw them in closer, so they would inspect the materials and question why I chose these recycled plastics and other objects to create the sculpture. Each object was specifically selected for this piece either because of it colouring or pliability. I choose to fill the centre of the sculpture with plastic fruit netting I had collected. This medium was selected due to its flexibility, colour, texture and malleability. This allowed the sculpture to wrap around each carefully selected piece, demonstrating the nature of the structure.
