These three multimedia experiments were made from recycled plastics, transforming wasteful materials into new and dialogue inducing objects. My artistic practice centres around plastic waste however in this piece I was inspired by newspapers layered on top of each other, bundled and tied with twin waiting for disposal into landfill or recycling.
I carefully chose brightly coloured plastic, cut, layered, stacked and tied them together before dipping them in melted wax. The heat of the wax distorted the plastic creating interesting edges and texture. This purposeful action was in an attempt to create dialogue around our landfills and that if we were to dig one up in a 100 years, what would we expect to find? These colourfully charged pieces provoke the viewers to think carefully about what is being said through these pieces.
The structural form of these pieces have been layered and wrapped with coir string, referencing how waste is layered and compacted over time in our landfills.
