Encased

Updated: May 16

Sustainability was an important factor within this piece. As such I need the correct materials to suit the criteria. When searching for the rights materials that would fit the criteria that I had for these pieces as well as being sustainable and not influence the environment around me, I discovered the primary source of candle wax is either plant or animal based, meaning its biodegradability quotient is significantly high. Considering this factor, I found this would be the perfect solution for the material I needed for my sculptures.

These sculptures are made using old fruit bags that I had collected over the past few months. Containing leftover materials from past works inside, giving them form and volume (of being filled in). The wax incasing the sculptures forms a protective layer around them entrapping them in their last form they had before they were dipped in wax. The wax also allows the viewers to peer though tiny holes, to uncover what was encased inside.
